February 4, 2014 UWA DUO AIMING FOR GOLD

A pair of University Junior Rugby club players, Jack Hardy and Connor McCluggage, have been selected to represent the State in the Under 15 level for the up and coming Australian Rugby Union Junior Gold Cup. The pair, both students at Churchlands Senior High, have been training 3 to 4 days per week since October within the RugbyWA Junior Gold Cup program. In March they will be heading to Queensland with matches scheduled in Rockhampton, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Lismore as they take on the best from Queensland and New South Wales in a gruelling tour of 5 matches in 7 days.

Both players have been playing at UWA Rugby Club since an early age and have been rewarded through their efforts at club level and at Regional Level by being selected to represent the state.

UWA Junior President Phil Groves said “the club has a great record of supplying players to state teams and Connor and Jack are our latest representatives and we wish them every success on the upcoming tour”. With registration day for the club just around the corner on the 8th and 15th February hopefully the club will turn out further representatives through a great coaching program the club offers. “The club has qualified coaches at all levels and offers one of the best venues around Perth via UWA sports park which  along with a social atmosphere for mums and dads we want to be the club of choice within the Western Suburbs” Phil said.
